Lake Sequoyah fall cleanup scheduled

Erol Eksioglu, Writer

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, a community cleanup will be held at Lake Sequoyah. Volunteers will clean litter along the shoreline, roads and trails within the park, and many are encouraged to bring paddling gear and boats to reach floating debris piles that are too far from the shore to simply pick up.

Supplies, Snacks and Giveaways: At the beginning of cleanup volunteers will be given bagels and coffee, then they’ll be given supplies and assigned a cleanup spot. Volunteers will be provided t-shirts at the end of the event.

What to Wear and Bring: Make sure to wear sturdy shoes or rain/muck boots, and don’t forget to bring a refillable water bottle.

This event is part of Pick Up Where You Play, a series of cleanups happening in Washington and Benton Counties this fall. All participants eighteen and older will be entered to win a grand prize of a two-night cabin stay and float trip for four people at Gracie’s Canoe and Camp in Pineville, Mo. on the Elk River.

Thank you to all the collaborators and sponsors: Beaver Watershed Alliance, University of Arkansas Extension Services, Boson Mountain Solid Waste, Keep Arkansas Beautiful, Beaver Water District, Arkansas Canoe Club, Benton County Environmental Division and Gracie’s Canoe and Camp.
