The official Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer came out Nov. 17, and fans are going even more crazy as they get to see more footage of the upcoming film. It’s going to be even more exciting when the actual film hits theaters this December.

The previous teaser showed us the aftermath of when Mysterio revealed Peter Parker’s identity to the whole world. Parker then goes to Doctor Strange for help; “when Mysterio revealed my identity, my entire life got screwed up. I was wondering if maybe you could make it so that he never did,” Parker asks. Strange goes along with Peter’s request and does the spell even though Wong, another sorcerer, warned him not to do it. Fans went crazy for what happened next- they mess up the spell and it causes the multiverse to crack, causing all the other characters from different Spider-Man films to come into the main MCU Universe. The multiverse is a large part of the comics and fans have waited a long time for anything multiverse-related.

The new trailer is basically a recap of what happened in the teaser trailer, but there is new content from the trailer for fans to talk about. The trailer begins with Strange explaining the effects of the botched spell, saying that “when you botched that spell where you wanted everyone to forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, you started getting some visitors from every universe.” The “visitors” Strange is referring to are characters that appeared in previous Spider-Man films. We then get to see an interaction with Parker and Dr. Otto Octavius, a villain previously featured in other Spider-Man movies. A breakthrough moment of the trailer is when Octavius realizes that the Peter Parker he’s fighting isn’t the Peter Parker he knows from his universe. He says “you’re not Peter Parker.” Throughout the trailer, we also see other classic Spider-Man villains like Dr. Otto, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard fighting Spider-Man. Fans are speculating that we might get a team up in the final battle which will be very exciting to see.

In addition, many fans noticed similarities between the 2014 film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and this trailer. In that film, Gwen Stacy, Parker’s love interest, is pushed off the clock tower and Parker tries to reach out and save her, but (spoilers if you haven’t watched The Amazing Spider-Man movies yet), Stacy ends up dying. In this trailer, it gives a nod to Stacy’s tragic death. This time, it’s Michelle Jones, Parker’s new love interest, in this same situation. This scene got a lot of fans theorizing; Is Jones going to face the same tragic death like Stacy? But there’s one big question fans are wondering: Where the heck are Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield?

There was also some backlash with the official trailer because of this. Many thought Maguire and Garfield were going to be in this trailer, and their absence confused a lot of fans. Theories began circulating that they were potentially cut from the trailer because Marvel wants fans to get super hyped at the theaters when they appear. There were many obvious hints and leaks speculating that Maguire and Garfield are indeed in the film. Fans hope to see Maguire and Garfield play their Spider-Man roles again, as it wouldn’t really feel like a Spider-Man film without them. Spider
